Charlie Hill Horsemanship November 2014

We finished our colt starting clinic October 19th, 2014, I could not be more excited and proud of each of those who brought these horses to be saddled and rode for the first time. I apologize to those who participated for not getting this post out sooner as the excitement that was apparent at the end of the clinic is best kept alive by talking about it, sharing the stories and remembering the memories.

There are many stories that could be told. My story and what I am most pleased with, is this whole group that I called my risk takers showed so much courage and resolve in hanging in there and trying to understand chillmethod. Some probably thought it would be some kind of formula, like some of the newbies they had seen or heard about. They began to realize that chillmethod was not a method of doing something, but more a method of learning or studying, as the rider was asked to get on their horse with no prescribed regimen performed and, still not understanding their role or the things I was explaining to them, that they should become aware of to keep them out of trouble. This task was met with much courage and enthusiasm for how it worked and what they were learning about awareness and responsibility. The reason I know this is true, in a conversation I had with several of them between rides, both from the riding position and from the ground, they were more confused than if they would have been given a formula. They were not sure if they would recognize their responsibility to keep the horses’ confidence coming their way. This took much resolve, as they all were back for day #3. I could not be more proud of each and every one of you. Congratulations, you made me look good.

We are going to have another colt starting clinic on December 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th, 2014. This will be free to those 18 to 24 years old. We are going to limit this to 8 horses and riders.
