Dr. W Lee Chatham Fundraiser – March 2017 at Horseshoe Park Equestrian Centre

2 Day Horse Training Clinic in Queen Creek, Arizona to Benefit Local Equine Veterinarian’s Journey to South Africa to Assist in the Treatment of Endangered Rhinos

Doctor Chatham, or “Doc” as his friends and patients affectionately refer to him, has been practicing as an equine veterinarian since 1959.  While a native of Arizona, he left his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, to attend Oklahoma State University Veterinarian School.  Doc returned to his homes state of Arizona in 2000 and has been practicing in the Gilbert area ever since.  This May, he will fulfill a lifelong dream.  He is hopping a plane (well more like five or six planes) to South Africa in order to treat some of the world’s most magnificent creatures.

Doc will be traveling with a team of local veterinarians to Kruger National Park and Wildlife Preserve. The crew of vets will receive hands on training from a local veterinarian and guide, as they assist in the care of rhinos and other threatened species.  These continuing education trips provide local veterinarians invaluable training.  More importantly, they provide much needed financial support, as well as volunteer veterinary care, for the Kruger National Park and Preserve.  As many know, the rhino is in a battle for its very survival.  The Kruger National Park and Preserve staff are working around the clock in an effort to save the rhino from poachers and habitat destruction.  Doctor Chatham will be assisting in the collection of DNA, tagging, and basic care of the rhino while studying at the Preserve.  While this trip will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Doc and many of the vets traveling with him to South Africa; we all hope that the efforts of the volunteer veterinarians and the dedication of the Preserve’s staff, will afford future generations the chance to witness these beautiful creatures in their native land.

In order to raise funds and awareness for this worthy cause, Doctor Chatham’s clients and friends are offering a 2 Day Horse Training Clinic at Horseshoe Park in Queen Creek, Arizona.  The clinic will feature the “Chill Method” courtesy of two highly-qualified trainers, Charlie Hill and Brian Bausch.  Charlie and Brian will work directly with participants and their horses.  If you ever feel like you and your horse are not on the same page, then this seminar is for you!  Charlie and Brian will teach participants how to better communicate with their horses in order to get the most out of that precious time spent in the saddle.

There is no set registration fee for the clinic.  Participants are encouraged to provide a donation to a fund that will help defray some of Doctor Chatham’s travel costs.  In addition to the training clinic, there will also be an auction fundraiser.  Charlie and Brian have generously volunteered to work with three of Doctor Chatham’s Thoroughbred geldings prior to the clinic.  All three geldings will be offered up at auction and sold to the highest bidder.
